Slimming World have announced changes to milk, beans, peas, Healthy Extra A and SP Syn allowance
Slimming World has announced new changes to its weight loss plan this morning, with revised guidance on Healthy Extras, Syns and protein-rich foods.
The organisation has informed consultants to share the news with their members today but changes will not take effect until Christmas.
All members will receive an additional daily Healthy Extra ‘a’ choice – portions of dairy foods which are high in calcium, namely milk and cheese.
Cow’s milk allowance has also been increased to 200ml per day.
But that tub of Philadelphia Light you’ve got in the fridge no longer counts as a healthy extra as reduced fat/light soft cheese and soft goat’s cheese have been removed from this category.
There’s also bad news if you like to follow the SP plan, which allows you to take the hassle out of planning by choosing only foods with S and P next to them.
Usually you also get to eat between 5 and 15 Syns a day when following this method.
From Christmas, however, members will be advised to enjoy a maximum of 10 Syns per day.
Peas and beans will also be off the menu – unless you want to Syn them – as they are losing their ‘P’ symbol.
They’ll still be free, but won’t be ‘speed’ food or protein-rich foods, meaning you’ll have to Syn them if you want them on the Extra Easy SP plan.
It comes less than two months after Slimming World announced changes to the plan in September, including the news that Muller Lights would no longer be classed as ‘free’.
A Slimming World spokesperson said: “Our nutrition team routinely reviews our healthy eating plan in line with latest guidance, and we’ve made a number of updates to Food Optimising for 2019.
“We’re excited about these changes and hope members will be too. As well as making our plan even more flexible and sustainable, they also ensure that we’re giving the most up-to-date health advice.
“The changes include giving members an additional daily Healthy Extra ‘a’ choice for even more calcium. Healthy Extras are those foods that, alongside our famous Free Food, ensure an overall healthy balanced diet by providing calcium, fibre and other essential minerals and healthy oils.
“In addition, we’ve re-assessed some foods that were previously labelled as ‘P’ (or protein-rich) Free Foods, such as peas and baked beans, and the P symbol has been removed.
“However, these foods will still be Free meaning they can be enjoyed without weighing, counting or measuring.
“And members following the Extra Easy SP plan (a plan designed to further boost their weight loss) will be advised to enjoy a maximum of 10 Syns per day.
“This latest update, which follows changes announced in September, will be included in all Slimming World’s new member information from Christmas.
“Slimming World group members who’d like to learn more about the changes should speak to their Consultant and online members will be able to find an update at Slimming World Online.”
