Sliming World is a weight loss organization that is based in the UK. Sliming World has also published a large variety of recipe books available for members in their group.
Popular microwave dinner brand which uses ‘syns’ to help dieters lose weight says it is considering legal action over new Aldi ‘knock-off’ offering.
SLIMMING World has threatened to sue Aldi after accusing it of copying their branded ready meals.
The discount supermarket’s new Slim Free range looks strikingly similar to the Slimming World microwave dinners sold at Iceland – but they are a THIRD cheaper and have FEWER calories.
The new range of low calorie and low fat ready meals from Aldi looks suspiciously like those sold at Iceland by Slimming World.
Slimming World claims the products look so similar to its range that it plans to launch legal action.
Slimming World followers count “syns” for higher fat or calorie foods such as sweets and crisps.
Slimmers up and down the country have apparently been rushing to their weekly group meetings and asking how many “syns” are in the new Aldi offering.
In a message sent to Slimming World consultants, bosses at the group said: “As you know, Aldi have recently launched a range of new frozen ready meals under the brand name Slim Free.
“We’re aware that members have been asking about them, in particular whether or not they are Free on our Food Optimising eating plan.
“We believe that the meals infringe Slimming World’s trademarks and because of that we are entering into legal action against Aldi.
“As a result, we’re sorry to let you know that we won’t be adding the meals to the database at this time.
“That means we aren’t designating them as either having a Syn value or being Free.
“So our advice to members for now is to use the Syns Calculator, which will give an estimated Syn value.
“As soon as we’re able to give you more information, we will.”
Aldi’s ready meals cost £1.99 compared to Slimming World’s which cost £3 at Iceland.
While Aldi’s chicken tikka masala has 371 calories the equivalent from Slimming World has 405 calories.
There are also two other meals in the Aldi range, a Three Beans Vegetable Chilli and a Moroccan Vegetable Stew.
According to Aldi the meals take inspiration from “pancontinental flavours” and are packed full of “lean meat, pasta, pulses and vegetables”.
Aldi have not been keen to draw any conclusions themselves about which brand the meals were comparable with.
